Orthodontics and orthopaedics (all ages)

Orthopaedics

This treatment modality aims to encourage the jaws to reach their full natural growth potential. Meanwhile the underlying deformities and imbalances in the associated bones are also corrected.

Often, due to birth trauma and other later incidents the jaws can become offset from the midline of the skull. They can also be unlevelled and distorted in shape. By using light wire appliances and gentle elastic forces it is possible to realign and reshape the jaws as nature designed. This we have learnt is important (from an empirical evidence base point of view) not only for correct function of the teeth and jaws but also to help prevent knock on distortions throughout the head and neck.

Orthodontics

This is the movement of teeth within the bone to obtain their correct alignment. Orthodontics can be done with or without orthopaedics first. Sometimes doing orthodontics without orthopaedics involves the extraction of healthy teeth.  Orthodontics allows the teeth to look prettier, more even and can give better lip support. With careful precise techniques the teeth are moved to give a neatly interdigitating bite with no spaces and a horseshoe type of shape to the arch.

The aim of both orthopaedics and orthodontics is to give you, the patient, a stable and fully functional bite displaying symmetry around the midline as well as a balanced and naturally beautiful smile where your facial support and aesthetics is enhanced to the optimum possible.
